Day 9 - Minnesota update

September 19, 2010

After arriving in Minneapolis, MN late on a stormy Wednesday evening, I am still here four days later. The skies dried up and the weather has been perfect; I didn’t expect to still be wearing shorts outside at this time of year.

I’ve been having a great time catching up with my relatives. Phil, Debbie, Elise and Cara have made my visit so enjoyable. When I started this trip, I really only planned on stopping in for a day or two to say hi and then be on my way. But they kept putting food out for me, like a stray dog that they’re trying to take in off the street. Baked oatmeal under layers of fruit, eggs and grits and sweet potato pancakes for breakfast. Sandwiches on homemade bread straight from the oven. Pad Thai. Fish tacos prepared on the grill. Lasagna. Chipotle burritos. Elise’s chocolate brownies and ice cream. It’s easy to see that they enjoy making great food, and I just happened to really enjoy eating it. All of this after a few days of eating Ramen noodles and food out of a can, did they think I would be itching to leave early?

This has been a very relaxing and refreshing 4 days, just the thing I needed to be able to start anew. I would love to stay longer and the offer was kindly extended; however, I’ve got a lot of miles ahead of me and a limited window to beat the winter weather, so I will get myself back into travel mode and be on the road again tomorrow morning.

My plan for the day is to make it to Sioux Falls, SD and possibly a little further on I-90W before finding a place to settle down for the night. Tuesday I will head in the direction of the Black Hills.

Thanks again Phil, Debbie, Elise and Cara. I hope to visit with you again soon!

  1. Eric, We loved having you here even if you are not that good of a four square player!
